“No one has done for the two-State cause what this Government has done until today,” stated Paulo Rangel, the deputy to the Government, at the PSD Summer University, a training initiative for young leaders, during a panel titled “A World with More Radicalisms?”
In contrast, he remarked, “People who claim to be the great defenders had eight years to recognize Palestine and did not,” referring to the PS executives led by António Costa.
“The Left Bloc, which is behind this humanitarian cause – certainly commendable – had influence over the socialist government for six years. Determinant influence. And what did they do? What did they do? It’s easy to talk when you’re outside. But when they are in government, these people don’t do it,” he criticized.
Mariana Mortágua, the coordinator of Bloco de Esquerda, will join the Humanitarian Flotilla departing for Gaza this week, aiming to deliver aid to the population and break the Israeli blockade.
For Paulo Rangel, the positions of the PS and BE on this issue can even be classified as populist.
“Populism is when I am in government or when I can face the government, I wasn’t able to do anything, but then as soon as I go to the opposition, I do amazing things and am the great champion of everything,” he said.
