“I know it’s difficult in many parts of the country. Don’t think I don’t know what you’re going through here in the district of Beja,” stated André Ventura during the presentation of local election candidates in the city, addressing the members of the lists present at the session.
Ventura acknowledged that “many candidates [from the party] are attacked, threatened, and pressured” and that “families are also threatened,” noting that some choose not to accept the invitation to join Chega’s lists.
“Many good people, unfortunately, do not want or do not feel they can show their face because of their children, spouse, grandparents, relatives, because they are afraid or were threatened they would lose their jobs if they ran for Chega,” he reported.
However, there are others, the party leader emphasized, who “despite suffering all the consequences, are not afraid to show their faces.”
“And I think we should not tire across the whole country, in areas, districts, and municipalities where this happens, of greeting these people, of greeting you and thanking you,” he stressed.
In this session presenting the local election candidates, besides André Ventura, the party’s candidate for the Beja City Council, David Catita, and the president of the District, Mário Cavaco, also spoke.
The local elections are scheduled for October 12.
