The 8th Book Festival in Belém, organized by the President of the Republic, takes place from September 4 to 7 in the gardens of the Palácio de Belém, with 72 publishers in attendance this year.

“With free entry, there will be four days of readings, debates, many books, lots of music, educational games, and presentations. A total of 72 publishers will be present, representing 285 publishing brands with 124 stalls,” reads an official statement.

The Book Festival in Belém, an initiative by President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, was created in 2016 to “promote Portuguese-speaking works and authors.” This year marks its eighth edition and it is organized by the Portuguese Association of Publishers and Booksellers in partnership with the Municipal Libraries of Lisbon.

From September 4 to 7, participating publishers will host autograph sessions with writers and book launches.

The official opening is scheduled for September 4 at 6:30 pm, but the public can enter from 4:00 pm. After the stalls close, there will be a concert by Carolina Deslandes.

On September 5, the doors open at 10:00 am until 9:00 pm, followed by a concert by the Rui Veloso Trio.

On September 6, the public can access the event from 11:00 am until 9:00 pm to explore the various stalls, with a concert by Bárbara Tinoco starting at 9:30 pm.

On the final day, September 7, the gates open at 11:00 am. A debate on “Portugal and the Future” is scheduled for 5:00 pm featuring former PSD leader Manuela Ferreira Leite and sociologist António Barreto, moderated by Pedro Mexia.

This year’s edition will conclude with a concert by Xutos & Pontapés.
