
“The worker was operating the machine when it began leaking oil, prompting him to exit to inspect the issue, and he became trapped between the cabin and the machine’s arms,” explained Lourinhã Fire Department Commander Ricardo Santos to Lusa news agency.
The alert for the workplace accident on EN247, near Praia da Areia Branca, was issued at 2:54 p.m.
“When we arrived at the scene, the victim was in cardiac arrest, so we initiated resuscitation efforts, which were continued by the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle team, but were unsuccessful,” Santos added, noting the death was declared at the scene.
The victim was 30 years old and of foreign nationality.
On-site at the accident were the Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle (VMER) from Torres Vedras, an ambulance, and other resources from Lourinhã firefighters and the GNR, totaling 11 personnel and five vehicles.
The accident will be investigated by the Authority for Working Conditions, with the body transported to the Institute of Legal Medicine of Torres Vedras after authorization from the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
