Angolan GDP grows 1.08% in the second quarter

According to the quarterly national accounts released today by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the non-oil sector experienced growth of 3.43% year-on-year, in contrast to the oil sector’s decline of 8.65%, which reduced the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth by 1.87 percentage points.

The main negative factors were the drop in crude oil extraction (-10%) and a reduction in public administration activity (-1.50%), transportation and storage, oil extraction and refining, and diamond extraction.

The daily average oil production fell to 998,757 barrels in July, the lowest level since March 2023 and the first time it dropped below one million barrels per day since the country exited OPEC in December 2023.

Among the sectors with the best performance, information and communication activities stood out with an annual growth of 38.12%, contributing 0.59 percentage points to the GDP variation, reflecting changes in estimation methods and increased revenue from internet and telecommunications services.

Other notable growths were registered in the accommodation and food services sector (7.99%), trade (6.50%), manufacturing (5.15%), and the extraction of diamonds and metallic minerals (6.79%).

In agriculture, the agricultural and forestry sector grew by 3.14% and contributed 0.60 percentage points to the GDP, supported by a 3.70% increase in agricultural production. Meanwhile, fisheries and aquaculture grew by 3.30%, notably industrial and semi-industrial fishing (9%).

In the first half of 2025, the Angolan GDP grew by 2.32% compared to the same period in 2024. Activities with the most significant contribution to this variation were information and communication (31.96%), diamond extraction (26.29%), public administration (7.35%), and trade (7.69%).

The sectors with the largest share in the GDP composition for the second quarter were agriculture and forestry (36.67%), trade (15.71%), oil extraction and refining (12.92%), public administration (7.26%), manufacturing (6.73%), and other services (6.65%).

The Gross Domestic Product in the second quarter of 2025 totaled 34.57 trillion kwanzas (approximately 32.04 billion euros), of which 531.44 billion kwanzas (around 492.6 million euros) corresponded to taxes on products net of subsidies.
