New ‘nationality counter’ opens Monday in Lisbon

The IRN announced that a new service desk will centralize all in-person services previously offered at the Central Registry Office on Rua Rodrigo da Fonseca and the Registration Space at the Expo in Lisbon.

The reorganization aims to provide more space, better facilities, greater convenience, and improved service quality, according to the IRN’s statement.

The new service desk will be capable of handling both walk-in and scheduled appointments.

Citizens with pre-existing appointments at the previous locations are being contacted by IRN to confirm their appointments and provide the new address.

Located at Alameda dos Oceanos, n.º 67-L, the new desk will be open from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM for both scheduled and walk-in services, and until 7:00 PM exclusively for scheduled services.

The IRN continues to encourage the use of non-face-to-face channels, such as mail, allowing citizens to submit nationality requests and documents by post to a nationality desk.

An online channel is also available at the portal justica.gov.pt, enabling the submission of all nationality requests and associated documents.

This online service is exclusive and mandatory for legal representatives (lawyers and solicitors registered in their respective Orders in Portugal) handling nationality requests for foreign citizens, as informed by the IRN statement.

The new service desk will be visited next Monday at 2:30 PM by the Secretary of State for Justice, Ana Luísa Machado.
