
A recent report on the operational activities of the Public Security Police (PSP) for the week of August 23 to 29 highlights a domestic violence case in Machico, Madeira, which gained attention after surveillance footage of the attack was widely shared.
The suspect, a 35-year-old individual, was placed in pre-trial detention following a preliminary judicial hearing.
The assaults, witnessed by the victim’s and assailant’s 9-year-old son, were recorded by surveillance cameras in the victim’s home and disseminated extensively on social media.
This incident prompted the regional secretary for Inclusion, Youth, and Work, Paula Margarido, to express being “deeply shocked” and affirming that “all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the protection and support of the victim and her family.”
Meanwhile, the PSP’s weekly report also notes 251 arrests for traffic-related offenses, 42 for property crimes (including theft, robbery, and fraud), 11 for illegal immigration, and 49 for drug trafficking, with a seizure of 5,150 individual doses of drugs.
