
The spokesperson for Livre, Rui Tavares, expressed being “in shock” over the accident and “disheartened by the existence of fatalities and attentive to the condition of the injured.”
In a note on the social network X, he shared a joint reaction with Carlos Teixeira and Patrícia Gonçalves, councillors for the party in Lisbon.
Meanwhile, the coordinator of the Left Bloc, Mariana Mortágua, mentioned receiving “with dismay the news about the derailment.”
“There will be time to clarify everything that needs to be clarified. For now, I offer my condolences to the families of the victims and wish a swift recovery to the injured,” stated Mortágua on the same social network.
The spokesperson for PAN, Inês de Sousa Real, also extended “sincere condolences to the families of those who died in the accident.”
“It is with sadness that we hear of such news. I hope no further lives are lost and wish a speedy recovery to those injured,” her post reads.
The Glória elevator in Lisbon derailed this Wednesday at 18:04 on Calçada da Glória.
INEM announced that the accident resulted in 15 deaths and 18 injuries, with five in serious condition and 13 minor injuries.
The government declared a day of national mourning for this Thursday.
The Glória elevator is managed by Carris, connecting Restauradores to Jardim de São Pedro de Alcântara in Bairro Alto, over a distance of approximately 265 meters, and is highly frequented by tourists.
