Cláudio Coimbra, aged 26, and his 23-year-old brother are facing charges of aggravated assault for allegedly punching and then kicking a serviceman in the head while he was down, according to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.
The incident reportedly occurred at 4:00 a.m. on November 12, 2021, inside a nightclub in Cais do Sodré, Lisbon.
During the first court session, the injured officer, aged 29, testified to being punched but acknowledged he did not know who delivered the blow.
Subsequently, Gonçalo Brandão lost consciousness, relying on his companions to identify the accused.
Upon arriving at the Lisbon Local Criminal Court, the victim and several supporters, including members from the Chega party, displayed a banner in tribute to PSP officer Fábio Guerra, who was killed in March 2022 by Cláudio Coimbra and another former marine, Vadym Hrinko, outside another Lisbon nightclub.
The family of Fábio Guerra, who was 26 at the time of his death, is also present today at the Lisbon Justice Campus.
The second defendant, Artur Coimbra, failed to appear at the first court session and was fined 204 euros by the judge.
