Four out of every ten Portuguese citizens (40.1%) would like to have their own business, according to data released by Marktest this week, based on a survey’s findings.
“The results of the 2023 TGI study by Marktest quantify at 2 million and 986 thousand the number of Portuguese who would like to own their own business one day, a figure representing 40.1% of the residents on the mainland aged between 15 and 74 years,” according to a statement released by the company.
Marktest further highlights that “this value corresponds to the number of individuals who, in response to the statement ‘I would like to own my own business one day,’ chose the options ‘Totally Agree’ or ‘Agree.'”
The results also reveal that “age is the variable with the greatest differences.”
Young People Stand Out
The results of the Marktest survey highlight the youth, as this desire is more prevalent among younger individuals.
“The desire to own a business is greater the younger the respondents, rising to 62.5% among those aged 15 to 24 and gradually decreasing to 19.0% among those aged 65 to 74,” it further states.
Moreover, “among social classes, it is in the Lower and Lower-Middle classes that greater agreement with the statement ‘I would like to own my business one day’ is observed.”
“The data and analyses presented are part of the TGI study, intellectual property of Kantar Media, of which Marktest holds the license for operation in Portugal. It is a unique study that simultaneously gathers information on 17 major market sectors, 280 product and service categories, and more than 3000 brands, thus providing in-depth knowledge about the Portuguese people concerning their consumption, brands, hobbies, lifestyle, and media consumption,” the released note further states.
It is also worth noting that, “present in over 60 countries across 5 continents, the TGI can also characterize international markets to understand consumers beyond borders.”
