International Argentine Tango Festival in October in Castelo Branco

“This festival arises from the desire to share, transmit, showcase, and experience the wonderful language of tango in its various forms, and the desire to dance,” stated Puro Abrazo – the Association for the Sociocultural Promotion and Dissemination of Argentine Tango, the event organizer, in a statement to the agency Lusa.

The event takes place in Castelo Branco from October 10 to 12, in several city venues including the Cineteatro Avenida, Centro Artístico Albicastrense, and the Parque da Cruz do Montalvão.

“This festival arises from the desire to share, transmit, showcase, and experience the wonderful language of tango in its various forms, and the desire to dance.”

Tango was classified by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2009, and its spread and practice have grown worldwide.

According to the organization, there are regular classes in Castelo Branco and a community of enthusiasts.

The program includes over 25 hours of Tango, lessons and workshops, four milongas, three tango exhibitions by professional dancers, a Tango show at the Cineteatro with an orchestra and dancers, and the traditional Tango orchestra La Argenta Ensamble.

There are also free classes and activities planned for beginners who wish to learn Argentine Tango, and a free milonga open to the public.

The organization also highlights the presence in Castelo Branco of Argentinians Barbara Ferreyra and Agustin Agnez, world champions of Tango 2021.

The last edition in Castelo Branco saw the attendance of over 200 participants from 11 countries.
