Meanwhile, the broad S&P 500 index gained 0.36% to 6,555.33 points.
U.S. unemployment claims reached a four-year high, rising by 27,000 to 263,000 for the week ending September 6.
This is the highest number of claims since the week of October 23, 2021, and exceeds the 231,000 new claims forecasted by economists.
Revised figures from the Department of Labor revealed that U.S. employers created 911,000 fewer jobs than initially reported for the fiscal year ending March 2025.
