The presidential candidate António José Seguro is scheduled to attend a meeting with the Clube dos Pensadores (CdP) on September 18, at 9:30 PM, at the Holiday Inn Porto-Gaia Hotel.
Socialist Álvaro Beleza, current president of SEDES – Association for Economic and Social Development and a close associate of Seguro, will also be present at the event.
The former socialist leader, competing in the presidential elections, dismissed claims of a lack of support from the Socialist Party (PS) during an interview with TVI on Thursday, stating that parties have their strategies. José Luís Carneiro “said that the PS would comment on presidential candidacies after the local elections” and Seguro “hopes this will happen.”

António José Seguro argued that he is running for the Presidency of the Republic “for the country” and due to “seeing people facing significant hardships” in Portugal, emphasizing that his candidacy “will always be non-partisan.”

The Clube dos Pensadores stated in a communiqué that “there was some dissent within the PS, sometimes excessively harsh and disproportionate for a party colleague,” referring to António José Seguro.
“The truth is that the new PS leader, José Luís Carneiro, still hesitates to support António José Seguro. However, according to the recent Portuguese Electoral Behavior survey led by ICS and ISCTE experts, almost half of the voters who claimed to have voted PS in 2025 now indicate they intend to vote for António José Seguro,” the communiqué reads.
The presidential elections are scheduled to take place on January 25, 2026.
It should be noted that the Clube dos Pensadores has already hosted Gouveia e Melo, one of the candidates for Belém.
Past participants in the Clube dos Pensadores discussions include political figures such as the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, the President of the European Council, António Costa, and the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro.
