The body of a 55-year-old Polish man was found floating on Friday afternoon near Ponta do Passo on Porto Santo island in the Madeira archipelago.
The National Maritime Authority reported that the alert was received at 3:36 PM, prompting immediate response from the crew of the Porto Santo Lifeboat Station, local Maritime Police, and Porto Santo Volunteer Firefighters.
Upon arrival, the “victim was removed from the water to the Porto Santo marina.” However, death was declared on-site by the medical examiner.
“According to what has been ascertained, the victim was walking with friends, allegedly went swimming, and subsequently disappeared in the sea,” the report stated.
The local Maritime Police Command of Porto Santo is handling the incident, and the Maritime Police’s psychology office has been activated.
