A 33-year-old man was arrested last Wednesday, September 10, by the Public Security Police (PSP) in Lisbon on suspicion of domestic violence.
In a statement sent to newsrooms this Friday, the PSP explains that the suspect “punched his partner in the face on Alves Torgo Street, in Lisbon, on public roads,” dragging her and forcibly putting her into a vehicle.
Still at that location and already inside the vehicle, the man again assaulted the partner with punches. He then left the street with the victim inside the vehicle.
The PSP also noted that the facts “were witnessed by three people,” who alerted authorities and provided information about the car license plate, which “was later confirmed to belong to the victim.”
“At the site, due to the dragging of the victim, one of the sneakers the victim was wearing was abandoned along with a large kitchen knife, which everything suggests belonged to the aggressor,” the statement reads.
The PSP further reported that through the license plate data, “several inquiries were conducted, eventually locating the vehicle on Azinhaga da Póvoa, Bairro das Galinheiras in Lisbon, still with the aggressor and the victim inside.”
After an approach, “the aggressor offered no resistance and the victim immediately confirmed that she was assaulted, dragged, and forcibly put into the vehicle” and that, once inside, she was assaulted again.
“The victim had injuries consistent with the reported account, namely bloody lips and a left eye with a bruise and swelling,” the statement says.
The suspect was detained and presented for a preliminary judicial interrogation, where measures prohibiting contact and ordering him to stay away from the victim and the victim’s residence were applied.
