The National Republican Guard (GNR) reported that traffic on the road near Mora, in the Évora district, was halted in both directions from approximately 12:20 p.m. until 2:35 p.m., when alternating flow was allowed following an accident.
The collision resulted in the death of a 76-year-old man, with two other individuals sustaining minor injuries, according to the GNR.
A representative from the Évora Territorial Command of the GNR confirmed around 2:35 p.m. that the accident had resulted in a fatality, though details regarding the minor injuries sustained by the other two individuals were not yet available.
“The two individuals with minor injuries were transported to Évora hospital,” stated a source from the Central Alentejo Sub-Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command, who also lacked further details on these victims.
The accident, alerted to authorities at 12:11 p.m., occurred near kilometer 475 of the EN2, leading to a complete road closure approximately 10 minutes later to conduct rescue operations, according to the sub-regional command.
A helicopter from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) stationed in Évora was deployed to the scene but was later deactivated.
The emergency response involved a total of 27 personnel, backed by 12 vehicles, including fire units, GNR, Mora’s Municipal Civil Protection Service, and INEM, alongside Évora’s emergency and resuscitation medical vehicle (VMER) and Ponte de Sor’s immediate life support ambulance (SIV).
