The fire, reported to be under control this morning, was declared in resolution status by Miguel Fonseca, the sub-regional commander of Douro.
As of 16:00, no victims have been reported.
By 16:20, 355 operatives, supported by 106 vehicles and nine aerial resources, were battling the fire in scrubland, according to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection’s online data.
The fire ignited at 14:30 on Friday in the União de Freguesias de Carva and Vilares, spread to the Asnela area, and then divided on the mountain to Perafita and Fiolhoso.
On Friday afternoon, strong winds complicated firefighting efforts. Fourteen aerial resources were mobilized for the event, which had two active fronts, one burning intensely towards the village of Fiolhoso and the other towards Perafita, in the municipality of Alijó.
