A firefighter from Mesão Frio, located in the Vila Real district, sustained a shoulder dislocation during field operations, according to Artur Mota, the sub-regional commander of Alto Tâmega and Barroso.

The firefighter was transported to Chaves hospital for observation.

Regarding the firefighting efforts in Santo António de Monforte, Chaves municipality, which began at 1:20 PM on Monday, Artur Mota reported at 11:45 PM on Monday that operations were progressing well, with two sectors under control.

Another sector was burning in a more inaccessible area, albeit with less intensity but covering a large area, he noted.

During the afternoon and early evening, strong winds and projections complicated the efforts of the personnel on the ground.

The sub-regional commander added that he expects the fire to be under control by dawn, though significant vigilance will be maintained throughout the day due to the fire’s perimeter.

The fire destroyed an agricultural warehouse containing straw, hay, and cereal meant to feed the cattle at a dairy in Bobadela, as stated by the president of the Junta do Planalto de Monforte, Luís Saraiva Garcia.

The barn housing the cows was not affected, but the feed was completely destroyed, marking the most severe impact in his district caused by the fire, he emphasized.

According to the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection’s (ANEPC) website, as of 12:10 AM today, 249 personnel and 80 vehicles were mobilized for this operation in Chaves, in the north of the Vila Real district.
