The GNR’s Porto Territorial Command reported the arrest followed a complaint of assault involving a bladed weapon.
At the scene, authorities determined that “the victim had been assaulted by the suspect, her former partner, who had already left the location.” Efforts were made that led to the arrest of the suspect, who had initially fled on foot.
The man was found in possession of a bladed weapon, and a subsequent house search revealed two additional bladed weapons.
The GNR noted that the detainee had a criminal record for offenses of a similar nature.
During the initial inquiry at the Felgueiras Judicial Court, he was remanded in custody and taken to the Custóias Correctional Facility.
This operation received support from the Paços de Ferreira Territorial Post, the Freamunde Territorial Post, and the Special Victims Support and Investigation Unit (NIAVE) of the Criminal Investigation Division of the GNR’s Porto Command, along with assistance from the Judiciary Police (PJ), the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), the Lousada Volunteer Firefighters, and the Lousada City Council.
The GNR emphasizes that domestic violence is a public crime and reporting it is a collective responsibility.
