Computer systems at Hospital de Loures are already functioning normally.

“The computer systems at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo have been restored and conditions are favorable for resuming patient care activities,” stated the Board of Directors of the Local Health Unit (ULS) of Loures-Odivelas in a communiqué. Clinical teams are focused on recovery and rescheduling all medical appointments.

On September 1, a computer equipment failure necessitated the activation of the contingency plan at Hospital Beatriz Ângelo. This resulted in the postponement of scheduled consultations and surgeries, and non-critical patients were redirected to emergency services at other hospitals, complicating access to patient clinical processes.

The following day, the process of restoring systems began, leading to the recovery of some functionalities. This allowed the halt in redirection of non-critical patients to other hospitals and enabled a gradual return to normal operations in the general emergency services, as reported by the hospital.

The ULS Board of Directors noted that “despite the constraints, the hospital ensured the General, Pediatric, and Gynecology and Obstetrics Emergency Services, cared for critical and hospitalized patients, and maintained part of its scheduled activities.”

They emphasized “the complexity of system recovery processes in healthcare due to the necessary steps that are crucial for preserving and integrating data, ensuring patient information security, and supporting clinical practice.”

The ULS, which previously stated that all activity affected by the issue would be rescheduled as a priority, expressed gratitude today “to all technical teams who worked tirelessly to resolve the computer failure, the staff’s dedication in minimizing the impact on activities, and the understanding shown by patients.”
