Attention, drivers! The Vasco da Gama Bridge will be closed to traffic during the early hours of next Tuesday, September 16.
“The Vasco da Gama Bridge will be completely closed to traffic on the night of September 15 to 16 (Monday to Tuesday) between 00:00 and 06:30,” Lusoponte announced in a statement.
According to Lusoponte, the closure “aims to comply with the previously established Structural Monitoring program” and “will occur for the tenth time since its opening” in 1998.
As an alternative, Lusoponte suggests using the 25 de Abril Bridge, “complying with the restrictions imposed on this crossing, particularly for the transport of hazardous materials,” which are only allowed between 2:00 and 5:00.
The Vasco da Gama Bridge, it should be noted, connects the northern bank (Lisbon/Sacavém) of the Tagus River to the southern bank (Alcochete/Montijo).
