The head of the executive celebrated this performance as “a pride for Portugal.”
On Saturday, Portugal secured seven medals, including two gold, one silver, and four medals of excellence, in the 9th edition of the European Vocational Skills Championship (EuroSkills), after competing with 32 countries over three days in Denmark.
The gold medals were achieved by Marco Malheiro from Ponte de Lima (Viana do Castelo) in welding, and the team comprised of Diogo Pinto from Lousada (Porto) and Loris Sgroj from Celorico de Basto (Braga) in robotic systems integration.

Portugal’s silver medal was awarded to the duo Diogo Botelho and Simão Alves, both from Torres Vedras (Lisboa), in mechatronics.
Botelho and Alves also claimed the Best in Nation award, which is given to the contestant with the highest score in each country. They achieved 777 points, the highest mark for Portugal.
The four medals of excellence were awarded to Leonor Silva from Santa Maria da Feira (Aveiro) in the hairdressing profession, Dmitry Zhivitsa from Águeda (Aveiro) in milling, Nelson Ribeiro from Felgueiras (Porto) in industrial control, and Bruno Alexandre Ribeiro from Vila Real in electrical installations.
The EuroSkills event took place between Tuesday and Saturday in Herning, on the Jutland Peninsula, where Portugal participated with 15 young people across 13 professional areas.
The European Vocational Skills Championship will be held again in 2027.
The 10th edition of EuroSkills will be co-organized by Germany and Luxembourg in the city of Düsseldorf, scheduled to take place from September 22 to 26, 2026, at the Messe Düsseldorf exhibition center.
