
A collision between two tourist trains in Tavira, Algarve, led to at least 15 people receiving assistance from national emergency services at a triage station set up near the scene.
This has been confirmed by the Algarve Civil Protection, adding that all those injured are foreign nationals: six British, six Brazilian, two Portuguese, and one German.
The German citizen was the only severely injured party, requiring transport to Faro Hospital for medical care. Civil Protection states that the woman sustained only minor injuries.
In total, about 50 people were aboard the two trains, which were operating near Praia do Barril, within the Pedras d’El-Rei resort in Tavira. The trains were traveling between Pedras de El-Rei and Praia do Barril.
As of now, Civil Protection has not determined the causes of the accident.
The alert was issued at 3:55 PM. In response, 31 personnel were deployed, along with 13 vehicles, including firefighters, INEM, and the National Maritime Authority.
