A young man, caught “in flagrante delicto,” was presented today for an initial judicial interrogation in Portugal and was subsequently placed under preventive detention, according to a statement from the district command of the Public Security Police (PSP) of Santarém.
The incident alert was raised by an individual near a commercial area in the city of Abrantes. Police on the scene confirmed that a 17-year-old girl had “just been assaulted with a bladed weapon.”
“The victim, with visible cuts on one hand and several scratches on her neck, received hospital treatment and was discharged shortly thereafter,” the note states.
The suspect was located and detained moments after the assault, and the bladed weapon used was also “located and seized,” adds the PSP.
The man, charged with the crime of causing serious bodily harm, spent the night in police custody in Abrantes. He was later transported to the Leiria prison facility after a judge from the Santarém court ordered preventive detention.
