
Two wildfires in the district of Viseu are mobilizing more than 500 firefighters, 150 ground units, and 21 aerial resources this Friday, September 19.
The Civil Protection website reports that one of the fires is in Vale Abrigoso, in the parish of Mezio and Moura Morta, in Castro Daire, engaging over 290 personnel and 80 ground vehicles. Thirteen aerial resources are assisting in battling the flames.
The fires are burning intensely near Highway 24 (A24), close to the locality of Mezio.
The fire in Maeira de Baixo, in the parish of Barreiros and Cepões, is mobilizing over 200 personnel and 60 vehicles, with the support of seven aerial resources.
The alert for the Castro Daire fire was issued at 12:05 PM. An hour and a half later, at 1:56 PM, a new alert was issued for the parish of Barreiros and Cepões.
According to the Meteo Trás os Montes page, “the fire is completely out of control,” and the wind is expected to “worsen in the coming hours.”
