The unified ticket, priced at 22 euros, grants access to various venues in the University of Coimbra, including the Royal Palace, São Miguel Chapel, Chemical Laboratory, Curiosity Cabinet, and Academic Museum, as well as Portugal dos Pequenitos and the Coimbra Municipal Museum, along with other municipal spaces like Chiado Building, Almedina Tower, and Anto Tower, according to a proposal by the municipality.
Excluded from the unified ticket are the University’s hallmark, the Joanina Library, and the Miveh (Jewish baths), which can be added separately with advance booking and a fee of five euros each.
The proposal indicates that the exclusion of the Joanina Library stems from its “high demand and the need for advance reservation,” allowing visitors to purchase the unified ticket and subsequently make additional reservations at the University of Coimbra’s tourism store.
“This initiative results from a partnership among the three institutions with the goal of promoting an integrated cultural offer and enhancing the municipality’s tourist appeal,” stated the Coimbra City Council in a press release.
The ticket’s revenue will be divided among the institutions, with ten euros allocated to the University, ten euros to the Bissaya Barreto Foundation (Portugal dos Pequenitos), and two euros to the Coimbra Council.
The unified ticket proposal was part of the Coimbra Tourism Strategy 2023/2025, aimed at encouraging more comprehensive tours of the city, extending visitors’ stays, and enriching less frequented cultural facilities, particularly the Municipal Museum centers, as clarified by the municipality.
The ticket’s implementation will be managed by a technical working group involving representatives from the three entities.
“The cooperation protocol among the parties will initially last two years, with automatic renewal,” the municipality added.
