The government official asserted that it’s feasible to integrate interoperability within the state without compromising citizens’ privacy, especially regarding the submission of documents to public institutions.
The minister aims to eliminate the need to send the same document multiple times to the state by promoting synergy among different state institutions.
“Only with interoperability can we meet the once-only principle […] and it is very difficult to comply with because various state departments do not have computer systems that communicate with each other,” he told reporters during a luncheon debate organized by AmCham Portugal – American Chamber of Commerce in Portugal, in Lisbon.
“Of course, privacy and respect for personal data is a concern we have, but other countries, such as Estonia and Denmark, ensure interoperability while complying with and safeguarding citizens’ privacy,” he added.
