Some workers may receive a ‘failure allowance’, a compensation intended to cover certain risks, as outlined in legislation for specific cases. This allowance is typically awarded to professionals responsible for managing money or equivalent assets.
The ‘failure allowance’ is described in the Diário da República as a supplementary payment granted due to a specific aspect of job performance, involving the handling of money or valuables (e.g., a toll collector). It functions as a subsidy to indemnify employees and agents for the expenses and risks inherent in such tasks, which could lead to accounting discrepancies in treasury operations.
This allowance generally does not constitute wages or remuneration unless its value exceeds what is considered normal or when it is regarded as a standard component of an employee’s compensation package, as stated in Article 260, No. 2 of the Labor Code.
The Spanish supermarket group Mercadona has announced the opening of a new store in Frielas, Loures, scheduled for October 16. The new supermarket will be located at Rua do Bom Jardim, nº 2, and will open at 09:00.
The company notes that this new opening signifies an important step in strengthening Mercadona’s presence in the municipality, bringing them closer to their “Chefes” (customers).
According to the Spanish group, the new supermarket will create around 90 stable, high-quality jobs, with open-ended contracts starting from the first day, thus contributing to local employment creation.
The municipal elections are approaching, set for October 12, when voters will elect executives and Municipal Assemblies across 308 municipalities. But what are the salaries of the mayors and councilors?
Remuneration depends on the council where they are elected, generally increasing with the number of voters they represent. The salary of mayors is referenced against the remuneration of the President of the Republic. This year, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa has a gross base salary of €8,370.14, according to the table available on the Direção-Geral das Autarquias Locais (DGAL) website.
The Social Security Institute offers a social benefits simulator, allowing individuals to determine their eligibility for social benefits swiftly, the Government recently highlighted in an Instagram post.
“Did you know you can simulate your social benefits in a few minutes? The online simulator helps you understand what support you might be entitled to, simply and quickly,” reads the Government’s post.
The Government further explains that the simulator automatically calculates the benefits one might qualify for, such as family allowance, sickness benefit, unemployment benefit, or Social Inclusion Income.
The caregiver allowance aims to support those who care for dependent individuals. However, the Social Security Institute now considers it income, which might reduce social support and increase the tax burden, as per DECO PROTeste. The consumer protection organization advises affected taxpayers to file a complaint.
The organization’s reminder reflects on the ‘Informal Caregiver Statute’, which includes a main informal caregiver allowance, providing monthly financial support to ensure minimum conditions and assistance to those dedicating significant time to care for close individuals.
