Participants in a lecture on Palestine advocate for the end of financing to Israel

“As long as Israel continues to be financed, armed, and normalized by the international community, the genocide will not end,” stated Palestinian immigrant and Nova University professor Dima Mohammed.

Mohammed emphasized the need to “end all arms trade with Israel and suspend all military and security cooperation” with the Jewish state. She also mentioned that there are investors “in companies profiting from destruction.”

Carlos Almeida, vice-president of the Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and for Peace in the Middle East (MPPM), argued that recognizing Palestine should be complemented by a political stance. “If this recognition is not accompanied by another political attitude and a concrete policy, which supports the Palestinian people, isolates Israel internationally, and holds the Israeli government accountable, we will continue to deceive the Palestinian people and sow illusions,” the Palestinian cause activist highlighted.

Writer and State Councilor Lídia Jorge, although not present, sent a video message stating that “fanaticism has prevailed in the world.” “Fanaticism has prevailed in Gaza, in Palestine, in Israel, in the United States, in Europe, and all around the world,” Jorge said, urging an end to this and the “genocide” in Gaza.

Leftist parties such as the Socialist Party, the Left Bloc, the Portuguese Communist Party, and People–Animals–Nature (PAN), who also attended the session, called for a more active European position, with some advocating for sanctions against Israel.
