
The wildfire, according to the Alto Tâmega and Barroso Emergency and Civil Protection Sub-Regional Command, currently has two active fronts and is gradually being controlled by the responding teams.
“There is a lot of wind at the site. The aerial resources have left as they cannot operate at night. We are hoping for improvements overnight with decreasing temperatures and rising humidity,” stated the same source.
When asked about the possible reinforcement of ground resources overnight, the source mentioned that the authorities are awaiting further information.
The firefighting efforts included support from Spanish authorities, involving five aerial resources.
According to the Civil Protection’s incident website, as of 19:45, there were 102 personnel and 25 ground resources on the scene.
During the day, at least 11 aerial resources were deployed to the location.
The fire began at approximately 1:20 AM and spread with two fronts, one of which was moving towards Spain.
The Spanish news agency EFE reported that both Portuguese and Spanish authorities are in communication to combat the fire, which was burning with great intensity at the Galician border.
