Mortágua replaced in parliament by bloc leader Andreia Galvão

In a statement on the official party website, “Esquerda.net,” it was revealed that the current lone deputy has undergone “deep reflection in recent days,” weighing “on one hand, the fleet’s protection given by the institutional role of the deputies and MEPs that form it,” and, on the other, “the fact that her absence in São Bento would leave the Bloc without parliamentary representation.”

The statement concluded “the need for the party not to be absent from parliamentary debates in the coming weeks.”

Andreia Galvão was third on the party’s list for the Lisbon electoral circle in the May legislative elections.

An official party source informed Lusa that the second on the list, former parliamentary leader Fabian Figueiredo, will not assume the mandate due to “professional constraints.”

The “Esquerda.net” reported that when Mariana Mortágua joined the fleet headed for Gaza with humanitarian aid, “the scheduled calendar was to reach the destination before the start of parliamentary sessions.”

However, “weather and logistical setbacks” and “attacks by drones already in Tunisia” led to stopovers longer than anticipated.

“I do this while maintaining a strong political presence here as an elected MP, representing many Portuguese. But I also want to ensure that, in all instances of Portuguese political life, the Bloc is represented. And the Bloc will be well represented by Andreia Galvão,” the statement quoted Mariana Mortágua as saying.

Until the return of the Bloc’s coordinator, the position of deputy will be occupied by the leader Andreia Galvão, a member of the BE’s Political Committee and National Board.

Andreia Galvão is an actress, producer, and cultural agent, born in Lisbon in 2000.

She holds a degree in Communication Sciences from Universidade Nova de Lisboa and a Master’s in Theatre from the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema.

In a social media post, Andreia Galvão stated that “at a time of attack on workers’ rights, forest and social mismanagement, and the need to converge around what makes us a diverse people,” she will replace Mariana Mortágua “for a month.”

“I do so with great civic and political responsibility,” the post added.
