“The highway was reopened to traffic at 20:56 and is now clear of constraints on that section,” stated a source from the Beiras and Serra da Estrela Emergency and Civil Protection Sub-regional Command.
The accident occurred at kilometer 149 of the A25, the Beiras Litoral and Alta Highway, which connects Aveiro to Vilar Formoso in the Guarda district, resulting in one serious injury. The injured party, a 37-year-old driver of the overturned vehicle, has been transported to the Hospital da Guarda.
The alert was raised at 16:41, mobilizing 12 emergency personnel from the Celorico da Beira Fire Department, GNR, and Ascendi, the A25 concessionaire, supported by five vehicles.
Until the highway was reopened, traffic was diverted via the old IP5 at the Açores/Sobral da Serra junction, through to Guarda, where re-entry to the A25 is possible.
