At a press conference in parliament, the parliamentary leader of the PS, Eurico Brilhante Dias, stated that November 25 “cannot be separated” from April 25 and that their celebrations should occur within the framework of the National Commission for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974.
“This is why the Socialist Party cannot support this resolution of the Council of Ministers or this commission that separates November 25 from April 25, 1974. It does so not only because it conceals the central role of Mário Soares and the Socialist Party, but because it largely seeks to rewrite history and create a narrative of confrontation and polarization that will not find a response in the Socialist Party,” he criticized.
Eurico Brilhante Dias also announced that the “PS will invoke November 25 with its own program” and that the party is the “great civil victor” of that date.
Lieutenant General Alípio Tomé Pinto will preside over the committee created by the Government to promote and organize the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the military operation of November 25, 1975, the Ministry of National Defense announced last week.
On August 28, the Government, in a Council of Ministers meeting, approved the creation of a committee to promote and organize the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the military operation of November 25, 1975.
