“The word that stands out in this year and a half of your responsibilities is the word failure in various public policies that I wanted to highlight today in this parliament,” accused José Luís Carneiro during his intervention, representing the PS, at the return of biweekly debates with Luís Montenegro in parliament.
The secretary-general of the PS accused the prime minister of failing in health, housing, education, and economic policy, urging Luís Montenegro to “stop floating and come down to earth” and to respond to what he had done with the PS proposals in defense, housing, and hospital emergency areas.
In response, the prime minister accused José Luís Carneiro of being stuck in time and suggested that it would behoove the PS to acknowledge “the error of the policies it has championed or supported.”
“Not seeing the obvious, not seeing what everyone sees, not feeling, despite the much that needs doing, what is being done and its effect, I think will render the Socialist Party irrelevant in solving problems in Portugal,” stated the head of the executive.
Montenegro expressed regret if this happens, attributing it to what he called a “negative and utterly unrealistic position.”
