Flight delays controlled by NAV Portugal decreased by 71% in the summer.

During the months from June to September, average en-route delays in flights managed by NAV Portugal decreased to 0.07 minutes per flight, marking a reduction of 71% compared to the same period last year, in a context where air traffic increased by 6.5%.

According to NAV, 18.3 thousand minutes of delay were recorded over 274.7 thousand controlled flights.

The manager noted a significant reduction in delays at national airports, with a particular focus on Humberto Delgado Airport.

In Lisbon, where traffic grew by 0.8% during the summer, delay minutes attributed to NAV Portugal’s operations fell by 54.8%.

Consequently, for all operations — both en-route and airport delays — the total delays decreased by 45.1% compared to the summer of 2024.

The data provided by the manager shows that the trend is also confirmed cumulatively over the year, with a 5.9% increase in controlled traffic between January and September, surpassing 596 thousand flights, while average en-route delays decreased by 7.7%.

The operation in Lisbon continued to stand out, with delay minutes at Humberto Delgado Airport decreasing by 36.7%, and total operation delays dropping by 27% since the beginning of the year.

The manager also mentioned that the current average en-route delay per flight is 0.26 minutes, which is below the target defined in the national performance plan (0.30 minutes) approved by the European Commission.
