The Regional Secretary for Environment and Climate Action of the Azores, Alonso Miguel, revealed on Thursday, September 25, that the trajectory of Hurricane Gabrielle, which has placed seven islands of the archipelago under red alert until 6 PM tomorrow, has experienced a “shift.”
“There has indeed been a shift in the hurricane’s trajectory” and it is expected to impact the Central group of islands more than the Western group, the official stated to journalists from the headquarters of Civil Protection on Terceira Island.
“For the Western group, the expectation was for more precipitation, we will wait,” he said, assuring that the regional government and Civil Protection are “monitoring the forecasts to make necessary decisions.”
Regarding the regional communications network, Alonso Miguel ensured that, unlike what has happened with SIRESP in mainland Portugal, in the Azores, it “is properly prepared, reliable, and effective.”
