
A railway collision occurred at a pedestrian level crossing in Ovar, with the alert being raised around 12:00.
In statements to Lusa, the commander of the Ovar firefighters confirmed that the fatal victim was a young man around 30 years old.
The official stated that the young man was crossing the pedestrian level crossing on an electric scooter and allegedly ignored the flashing signal indicating an approaching train.
The young man was struck by a freight train traveling from Porto to Lisbon.
The National Institute of Medical Emergency declared the death on the scene.
Elements from the PSP police, Ovar firefighters, and the Feira Medical Emergency and Resuscitation Vehicle were dispatched to the site.
A source from Infraestruturas de Portugal reported that railway traffic was suspended until 14:45.
