Luís Montenegro spoke during the Council of Ministers meeting held at his official residence in São Bento, delivering a statement without taking any questions.
After announcing housing measures impacting taxes such as IRS, IVA, IMT, and IMI, the Prime Minister provided an assurance at the conclusion of his statement.
“We are acting with financial responsibility, without compromising the balance and health of public finances, while maintaining our goal of achieving budget surpluses in the coming years,” he stated.
Montenegro mentioned that in the coming days, he, along with the Finance Minister, will outline the essence of the Government’s fiscal balance plan.
“We will do so outside the discussion of the State Budget. Although some fiscal rules still need to be included in the budget, fiscal policy should be addressed through independent instruments and decisions, which naturally have an impact on revenue collection and expenditure definition of the administration. However, these are not budgetary policies; they are economic and social policies,” he asserted.
