“I was surprised that we have a prime minister and a minister of Infrastructure responsible for housing who consider the average Portuguese rent to be 2,300 euros. That is what surprised me,” stated José Luís Carneiro to journalists.
The Secretary-General of the PS traveled to Castelo Branco for the official presentation of the socialist candidate for the Castelo Branco City Hall, Leopoldo Rodrigues.
When questioned about the PS’s willingness to discuss changes to foreigner laws with the PSD, José Luís Carneiro remarked that the scheduling of these discussions appears to be a way to distract people from what truly matters to them.
“Immigration is important, but it is not the priority issue for people’s lives. This is part of a strategy,” he emphasized.
In response to further questions from journalists, the socialist leader confirmed, “We will present our proposals and our vision in the Assembly of the Republic on Tuesday.”
José Luís Carneiro highlighted his astonishment regarding the officials’ assertion of an average rent of 2,300 euros.
“I think this comes from someone who does not know the country and does not experience the problems of young Portuguese. I must say I rewound the TV footage to confirm if the prime minister of Portugal and the minister of Infrastructure were indeed stating this as an adequate rent for a young Portuguese, for a Portuguese family, of 2,300 euros.”
Returning to the immigration topic, the PS Secretary-General commented that “AD is entangled with Chega.”
“We have known this for many months. What I hope is that this courtship does not lead to a marriage. But we will wait and see,” he concluded.
