“There was a failure in a waterproof sheet, which does not affect the structure of the terminal. SATA already has a technical solution that will be relatively quick and will be implemented in the coming days as soon as weather conditions allow,” stated a source from the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility, and Infrastructure to the news agency Lusa.
Claiming it was an incident with relatively minor damages, the same source added that SATA Aeródromos, which manages Graciosa aerodrome, has been conducting an assessment of the situation.
According to the governmental source, the terminal has been closed since Thursday as a precautionary measure due to bad weather but will reopen for operations today at 1:00 PM local time (2:00 PM in Lisbon).
Tropical storm Gabrielle, which turned into an extra-tropical depression, hit the Azores archipelago recently, causing 103 incidents across various islands and displacing eight people, as announced by the Regional Government.
