Arrested after bringing 110 thousand doses of cocaine to Portugal in a backpack

Two foreign nationals were arrested this week following an operation at Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon that led to the detection of large quantities of cocaine.

A statement issued on Saturday highlighted that “the arrests took place as part of a joint operation between the Polícia Judiciária [PJ] and the Tax Authority, during which a man arriving from a South American country was initially intercepted while attempting to bring a large amount of cocaine into the national territory.”

Subsequently, the PJ reported that investigations conducted by the National Unit to Combat Narcotics Trafficking enabled them to identify and arrest, “in the act, the recipient of the narcotic.”

According to details provided, the drug was brought to Portugal packaged in ten slabs and was transported inside a hand luggage backpack.

The quantity of the narcotic “would have been sufficient to make at least 110,000 individual doses if it had reached illegal distribution channels.”

The detainees, aged 21 and 46, were presented to a preliminary judicial hearing, and both were remanded in custody as investigations related to this case continue.
