The fire commander of the Batalha Volunteer Firefighters, Hugo Borges, reported that the blaze “started in one room and spread to three more rooms” of the residence, located in Casal da Amieira, necessitating the evacuation of the entire building, as well as the adjacent building that is part of the same complex.
Hugo Borges clarified that a 56-year-old woman was transported to the Hospital of Santo André in Leiria due to smoke inhalation, and the individuals assisted were guests.
At the scene of the fire, which authorities were alerted to at 12:45 PM, 23 personnel supported by various vehicles responded from the Batalha Fire Department, National Institute of Medical Emergency, Municipal Civil Protection, and National Republican Guard.
