Inflation rate slows to 2.4% in September

Compared to the previous month, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) is estimated to have risen by 0.9% (-0.2% in August and 1.3% in September 2024), according to the INE’s statistical summary.

The core inflation indicator, which excludes unprocessed food and energy products, is expected to have increased by 2%, a rate 0.4 percentage points lower than the previous month.

The energy products index showed a variation of 0.3% (-0.2% in August), while the unprocessed food prices index is estimated to have remained at 7%.

INE estimated an average variation over the last twelve months of 2.4%, consistent with August’s value.

The Portuguese Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) is likely to have experienced a year-on-year change of 1.9%, compared to 2.5% in the previous month.

The final data for September’s CPI will be released on October 10.
