The resolution project was approved with opposition from Chega, while the suspension is linked to the municipal elections.
On July 11, the IL’s request for the formation of this CPI was approved with support from Chega, IL, Livre, PCP, BE, PAN, and JPP, while PSD, PS, and CDS-PP abstained.
The commission comprises 24 deputies: eight from PSD, five from Chega, five from PS, two from IL, two from Livre, one from PCP, and one from CDS-PP.
The deputies have 90 days to determine the political, technical, contractual, legal, and financial responsibilities related to INEM, including during the strike in late October and early November 2024.
The deputies will also “analyze in detail the management decisions made in the preparation phase and during the strike period, focusing on their adequacy and impact on service operations” and “scrutinize the political responsibility of various parties involved in the strike, including the role of different entities in defining and fulfilling minimum services.”
The CPI will further “evaluate the relationship of different political authorities with INEM and clarify the involvement” of all governments since 2019 in their respective political and financial management.
