Fado singer Helena Sarmento will go on tour in South America.

The creator of ‘Entrega’ will be accompanied by Brazilian musicians Pedro and Paulo Aragão on mandolin and guitar, respectively, except for two venues in northeastern Brazil, Fortaleza and João Pessoa, where she will be joined by Vinicius d’ Lucena (mandolin) and Samuel Alves (guitar).

“On stage, we will present musical, poetic, and linguistic synergies between Portugal and Brazil in numerous ways, either through the intrinsic connections in the works of Amália Rodrigues, Cecília Meireles, Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen, Elizeth Cardoso, Dona Ivone Lara, or in the lyrics of Luís de Camões describing love, longing, and melancholy,” Helena Sarmento stated.

The fado singer highlighted that she will utilize “theatrical resources, light, projection, sound, characters, and reflections.” “The audience is invited to experience fado, samba, samba-canção, and seresta, presented from the perspective addressed in the album ‘Tanto Mar’,” released in June.

In the album ‘Tanto Mar’, Helena Sarmento reinterprets various themes from the Brazilian repertoire, including ‘Que Sejas Feliz’ and ‘Chão de Estrelas’.

The tour begins on October 19, as part of the Festival Porteño de Fado and Tango at the Cultural Center Recoleta in Buenos Aires, which also features a concert by Portuguese guitarist Ricardo J. Martins on October 17.

After the Argentine capital, Helena Sarmento heads to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay, where she will perform on October 22 at the Bastión del Carmen Cultural Center and sing at the Sala Camacuá in Montevideo the following day.

On October 31, ‘Tanto Mar – A Segunda Travessia’ will be presented at the Artur Távola Carioca Music and Arts Center in Rio de Janeiro, one of the cities where the album ‘Tanto Mar’ was recorded. On November 6, still in this city, she will perform at the House of Choro, where she has already played in 2023.

Also in Brazil, the creator of ‘Partida’ will perform on November 22 at the House of Portugal in São Paulo and on November 28 at the Federal Institute of Ceará in Fortaleza.

In December, on the 2nd, songs like ‘Partida’ and ‘Naufrágio’, from the repertoire of Amália Rodrigues (1920-1999), will be heard at the Federal Institute of Paraíba in João Pessoa and on the 4th at the Portuguese Reading Office in Pernambuco, Recife.

‘Tanto Mar’, the fifth album by the interpreter, featured 13 musicians, was recorded between Porto and Rio de Janeiro, and was musically directed by Pedro Aragão.
