
Authorities from the Barreiro Public Security Police (PSP) in the Setúbal district have detained a man for operating an electric scooter on public roads at speeds exceeding the legal limit of 25 kilometers per hour.
The PSP reported that the arrest took place during a road safety patrol, where it was observed that the driver was traveling significantly faster than allowed by law.
Upon inspection, officers determined that the scooter’s power output was beyond the maximum legal limit of 0.25 kW, as stated in article 112, section 2 of the Traffic Code. The vehicle was equipped with dual batteries, delivering a total power of 8000 W, operating at 72 volts and a capacity of 50 Ah.
Based on the identified technical specifications, the vehicle qualifies as a moped. The individual did not have the necessary license to operate such a class of vehicle.
