Operation by Viseu’s GNR constituted seven defendants for qualified fraud

The National Republican Guard (GNR) has announced the formal identification of a legal entity and six men, aged between 41 and 66, as suspects in crimes including aggravated fraud, money laundering, and criminal association across the country.

The police operation, named “The Scheme II,” was conducted on Tuesday by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the Territorial Detachment of Viseu from the Territorial Command of Viseu.

The operation was the culmination of an investigation initiated in 2020 and followed up by investigative steps taken in April 2025. During the operation, the GNR officers executed 16 searches, ten of which were residential, and six in business entities.

The searches were carried out in various locations including Lisbon, Sintra, Magoito (municipality of Sintra), and Cacém (Lisbon district), as well as Moita, Montijo, and Setúbal (Setúbal district), Porto, Leiria, Pombal (Leiria district), and Braga.

The authorities seized several items, including two mobile phones, a computer, numerous clothing articles, goods linked to charitable organizations, various documents, and multiple identification cards in the names of associations.

This investigation previously led to another operation in April, which resulted in charges against three organizations and 13 male individuals. In that operation, 23 residential and 13 non-residential searches were conducted.

At that time, searches took place in Moimenta da Beira (Viseu district), Pombal (Leiria district), Braga, Magoito (Sintra), Amadora, Queluz, Agualva-Cacém, and Loures (Lisbon district).

The findings have been reported to the Judicial Court of Viseu.

The “The Scheme II” operation involved a total of 67 GNR officers, including members from the Criminal Investigation Division, and Territorial Commands of Braga, Leiria, and Lisbon, supported by elements from the Public Security Police (PSP) and the Judiciary Police (PJ).
