
A two-month-old infant was reportedly the victim of a domestic violence incident on Tuesday evening in Funchal, Madeira, allegedly involving the child’s father.
The Public Security Police (PSP) and Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called at 6 p.m. to a situation in Bairro dos Viveiros, according to Jornal de Notícias da Madeira.
Initial reports suggested a violent altercation involving immigrants.
However, upon arrival, authorities determined it was a case of domestic violence involving a two-month-old victim.
Suspicion has fallen on the father. Nonetheless, he was not arrested as he was not caught committing the crime. According to the regional newspaper, he has been identified.
The infant was taken to the hospital and admitted with “significant” injuries.
Sources involved in the case disclosed that the family was already known to and being monitored by Social Services.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident.
