Sentenced to 6 years in prison for 13 robberies of cafés in the North of the country

A 28-year-old man from Póvoa de Varzim was arrested on Tuesday, August 30, to serve a sentence of six years and six months in prison for committing 13 counts of aggravated theft.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the Public Security Police (PSP) announced that the suspect, along with other men, was involved in robberies at various commercial establishments, such as cafés and pastry shops, across several municipalities in the northern part of the country, including Vila do Conde, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Fafe, Esposende, Póvoa do Varzim, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima, Vila Verde, Trofa, and Matosinhos.

According to the PSP, these crimes took place between July 2022 and January 2023. During the attacks, the thieves used either stolen vehicles or their own cars with concealed license plates.

They were equipped with various tools, such as “screwdrivers, flashlights, crowbars,” or other items intended to enable access to the establishments and “removal of goods.”

The detained individual, who was already under house arrest, has now been transferred to the Porto Prison, where he has begun serving his sentence.

The PSP has not clarified whether the other suspects have been apprehended or not.
