The Porto Metropolitan Command of the PSP stated that a series of crimes occurred between July 2022 and January 2023. A group of men targeted various commercial establishments, such as cafes and pastry shops, across several municipalities, including Vila do Conde, Vila Nova de Famalicão, Fafe, Esposende, Póvoa do Varzim, Barcelos, Ponte de Lima, Vila Verde, Trofa, and Matosinhos.
The suspects utilized stolen vehicles taken from more remote locations, or when unavailable, their own vehicles with concealed license plates, the statement explained.
The group was equipped with various tools for breaking into establishments or vehicles, such as screwdrivers, flashlights, and crowbars, which facilitated their access and enabled the removal of goods by compromising locks or security devices, according to police reports.
The young man, now detained, was already under house arrest with electronic surveillance, a measure that took effect in July after his sentencing. He has been transferred to Porto Prison to begin serving his sentence.
